About PROJECT LAW ACCESS

Project Law Access is a data-driven legal information platform dedicated to making legal knowledge more accessible to the public. Our mission is to bridge the gap between individuals and the legal system by providing free, reliable legal insights and facilitating connections to legal clinics and professionals.

What We Do

  • Case Outcome Data – We present publicly available data on case outcomes for different types of legal matters, including criminal, civil, and immigration cases.

  • Find Legal Clinics – Users can easily locate free and low-cost legal clinics in their area.

  • Matchmaking for Legal Help – A free tool that connects individuals with attorneys and legal resources based on their needs.

  • Legal Insights & Analytics – We analyze trends in access to justice, leveraging reports such as the US Justice Needs study by IAALS and HiiL to highlight disparities and opportunities for legal improvement.

Why It Matters

Millions of people struggle to navigate the legal system due to a lack of clear information and accessible resources. By leveraging data and technology, Project Law Access empowers individuals with knowledge and helps lawyers improve efficiency to expand legal access.

Currently, Project Law Access is a non-commercial, student-driven initiative. While we are focused on providing free legal information, we envision evolving into a platform where attorneys can list their services and users can access AI-powered legal assistance.

Our goal is simple: Make legal information easier to find, understand, and use—so that more people can get the legal help they need.

Why This Project Was Created

Project Law Access was launched to explore how data and technology can transform the way we understand and interact with the legal system. The idea is simple: while law heavily relies on precedent, reasoning, and professional judgment, it has yet to fully embrace the power of data analytics—tools that are already revolutionizing industries like business, healthcare, and finance.

In law, predictability matters. Lawyers routinely assess risks, forecast outcomes, and strategize based on experience and prior cases. But unlike other fields where decisions are increasingly supported by data models and quantitative analysis, legal professionals often lack access to tools that can offer clear, data-backed insights. This project was created to help bridge that gap.

By applying analytics to legal data—such as case outcomes, timeframes, and cost estimates—this project aims to make legal information more transparent and accessible. Imagine being able to enter basic details about a legal issue and receive a data-informed overview of potential outcomes, risks, and next steps. Tools like this wouldn’t replace lawyers but would make legal services more approachable and help people understand their situations before seeking representation.

Beyond technology, Project Law Access is also about taking law to those who need it most. Through plain-language legal guides, research reports, and curated resources, the project helps demystify legal processes and connect people with the knowledge they need to take action. Whether it's understanding rights, identifying relevant legal clinics, or making sense of case trends, the goal is to bring legal information closer to the public.

This approach supports legal professionals, too. With better tools for research, forecasting, and automation, lawyers can work more efficiently—reducing costs, speeding up processes, and freeing time for more complex work. Ultimately, more efficient legal practices mean more people can get the help they need, especially in underserved communities.

Project Law Access is about combining the strengths of legal reasoning with the potential of data, creating a more informed, equitable, and accessible legal system for everyone.
